Favorite Summer Classics

Tuesday, June 7, 2016

Welcome to summer in Seattle, where one day it's overcast and barely hitting 60 and one day later it's 90+ degrees! These past few days we've been hitting close to 90 and I have to admit I'm melting a bit. It was a quick jump with little time to acclimate and although I am one that adores the heat, I am struggling a bit to keep up. To help stay cool I am living in my favorite summer classics: vintage Levis denim cutoffs, Birkenstocks, and my favorite Isabel Marant top from a few seasons ago.

Vintage Levis denim  cutoffs are pretty much my summer go to. I think they are suitable for any age (yes I said that! Screw that ditch your cutoffs at age 30, 40, whatever!!). Vintage Levis are a true classic and I believe the same for the DIY shorter version. So rock those denim cutoff's into your 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's,etc . . . because they are a true summer classic!

My favorite version are a thrifted vintage pair of Levis 501s that don't quite fit as jeans but are ideal for a shorter version (I found these as jeans at Seattle Goodwill's Capitol Hill store). It's super important to measure and not go to short at the first cut; I'll be sharing a tutorial shortly on how to create the perfect DIY pair of denim cutoffs, stay tuned! However, if you're scared to DIY, here are a few great pairs to buy right off the rack:

Isabel Marant is one of my favorite Designers and so many of her pieces are just ideal for Summer. This blue top is one of my all time favorite pieces in my closet and I just love it's breeziness at this time of year. It's perfection has claimed it's place 100% of the time in my suitcase for hot vacations, as well as a staple for summer coffee shop visits, farmers market days, and weekend road trips out of the city. Although this top is no longer made, the boho blouses from Isabel Marant's current collection are all so on point (and one or two might just be taking it's place alongside this one).

Another summer classic are Birkenstock Sandals. Oh so 70s and boho, once the shoe of ugly, they are now deemed a summer classic, and yes, very much still on trend. I'm a huge fan of the Arizona, although I've recently been eyeing the Gizeh Birko Blor Thong. Back in the 90's I used to rock the Boston Clog and I might have to pick up a pair of those too.
