5 Tips For Winter Wellness

5 Tips For Winter Wellness

Who else is noticing our days getting shorter and colder? Post-daylight savings and I can definitely feel that winter is just around the corner. With the sun now setting in the 4p hour, the temperatures dropping and sweater weather turning into puffy jacket weather, winter is in the air!

This change of seasons brings the importance of winter wellness. From staying warm during the colder days and nights to paying special attention to protection and treatment of lips from harsh weather and stress to transitioning your skincare to winter to taking care of your hands and feet and keeping your body moving, winter wellness is so important.

Today I am excited to share with you, in partnership with Babbleboxx, five tips for winter wellness.

Weekend Reading 1.24.2020

Happy FriYay! Can you believe we're almost already through January and the first month of the new decade?! It's been a pretty dreary and rainy week here in Seattle and the forecast for the distant future is calling for same same, which is honestly getting a little hard to deal with.

As such, I've been in search of all things that slightly resemble "sunshine." That has included a walk through Target (seriously the lighting in this store has a magical pick me up), buying a giant slice of Funfetti cake and requesting all the library books for sunny places such as Ibiza and the Caribbean. I am now about to purchase some SPF in the form of Glossier Invisible Shield. Please send sunshine!

This weekend I'm going to do my best to get outside, even if it means donning a raincoat, grabbing my rain boots and splashing through puddles. I'm loving these Everlane Rain Boots and they're only $75!

Could the future of sustainable materials be milkweed floss? It grows like a weed, is six times warmer than wool and offers a plant based alternative to down. The plant was once valuable to the United States during WWII because it's silk fiber floated in water and was used to fill life vests. It fell out of fashion after the war, regaining popularity as "just a weed." But this weed plays a crucial role in the monarch butterfly life cycle and has untapped potential as a material for fashion. Sustainable, vegan, and with amazing thermoregulatory properties, is The Future of Sustainable Materials: Milkweed Floss?

Speaking of sustainability, my friend Joanna (and fellow Seattle Blogger) shared this week a round-up of 6 Eco-Friendly Activewear Brands to Shop Right Now. I can personally attest that PACT, Outdoor Voices and Patagonia offer amazing active wear options and I look forward to checking out the the other brands. I am particularly loving this Patagonia Fleece Vest this winter!

The newest Nordstrom Pop-In is an ungendered capsule collection by Eileen Fisher that marries the sustainable ethos of Eileen Fisher with the future forward vision of Nordstom's Olivia Kim. With a focus on organic and recycled materials, this is a future where what you wear is whatever you want and collections aren't for him or her, they're for us! The organic cotton nylon fishtail anorak and this tote are both on my wish list.

Is your skin like mine and go absolutely nuts in the winter? This Skin Regimen Moisturizer is absolutely saving my skin this winter season. Other winter skin warriors I am loving include the Skin Regimen Cleansing Cream, Thayers Rose Petal Toner and Skin Regimen Microalgae Essence.

The Cuyana Spring Preview is just so lovely! Such a beautiful color palette with such lovely silhouettes.

I've got my eye on this cropped alpaca cardigan sweater for $100. I can't decide between the almond and pomona green. Isn't it perfect?!

Olay Whips: The Unicorn of Moisturizers for Winter Skin Problems

Dealing with winter skin problems? Ugh, the worst, and I am so with you! As soon as those temperatures started dropping, I knew that dreaded dry, itchy skin would soon be upon me, and the oh-so-heavy moisturizers required to deal with it that also cause me to breakout, #winterskinproblems. No thank you, so over it.

Did you know that our skin starts to feel the effects of cold weather when temperatures drop below 53.6 degrees Fahrenheit? Also, that central heating reduces air humidity levels to just 20-25%, the same moisture content as the Sahara Desert? No wonder by mid-winter and mid-January our skin is on the defensive!

Which is why I am so excited about the new Olay Whip! Formulated to work and feel different, Olay Whip offers powerful hydration with a smooth matte finish that feels as light as air! Excuse me while I shout from the rooftops, "The weight is over, heavy creams no longer necessary!"
