What to Wear in Fall: Gold Earrings, Sustainable Scrunchies, Recycled Fleece, Cashmere Sweaters and More of My Favorites This Season!

Sunday, November 8, 2020

Thank you Nakturnal for partnering on this post.

What to Wear in Fall: Pearl and Gold Earrings, Sustainable Scrunchies, Cashmere Sweaters and More of My Favorites This Season!

Brr! November is here and with that brings crisp (cold?!) days and nights, the last of the leaves changing color and now falling off trees and a mix of weather from sunshine to rain (and possibly snow?) It's that time of year when layering is key and accessories shine like the golden leaves upon the trees. It can also be a bit challenging to get dressed, as the weather can vary day to day, but its not quite time to break out the winter parka.

Today I'm sharing an outfit I see as my go-to a this time of year - an oh-so-soft cashmere turtleneck sweater, black leggings, sustainable pearl and gold earrings, the most comfortable pair of flats, a cozy fleece made from recycled wool, scrunchies made from recycled water bottles and my favorite thrifted crochet bag. The perfect outfit to wear in fall!

A Foundation of Fewer, Better Things This Fall with Cuyana

A Foundation of Fewer, Better Things This Fall with Cuyana
Cuyana Trench Wrap Dress c/o | Cuyana Small Structured Leather Tote c/o | CastaƱer Carina 80 Suede Wedge Espadrilles | Chan Luu Gold Plated Pearl and Crystal Earrings (sold out, similar) | Cuyana Leather Travel Case Set | Cole Haan Aviator Sunglasses | Kjaer Weiss Lip Gloss | Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick

As I continue to curate and create a more sustainable closet, there are a few brands I continue to turn to when I need a new piece for my wardrobe. Cuyana is at the top of that list. With a philosophy founded on owning fewer, better things, Cuyana's beautiful timeless pieces stand the test of time and are those I reach for time and time again.

I've shared my love of Cuyana before (here, here and here) and I am so excited to partner with them once again this fall to continue to create a foundation of fewer, better things and a more sustainable closet. Cuyana believes owning fewer, better things leads to a richer life filled with cherished belongings that stand the test of time. I just love this!

Each Cuyana piece is created with intention: to be beautiful, functional and timeless. Precisely what I'm looking for when adding a new piece to my closet. Collections are informed by elegance, simplicity and practicality, and Cuyana's Fall collection, as well as Foundation pieces are no different.

Heritage and Sustainability With GANT

GANT Shirt c/o (sold out, similar) | Veronica Beard Jeans with Frayed Hem (sold out, similar) | Cuyana Work Clutch | Sam Edelman Black Pumps | Chan Luu Gold-Plated Pearl & Crystal Earrings (sold out, similar) | Cole Haan Aviator Sunglasses

Oh hello Fall! I mean, seriously, how is it already the last day of September?! As October appears tomorrow, Seattle is full swing into fall (winter?!) mode. The leaves are changing colors, the air is crisp, the temperatures have dropped and everyone is sporting fall fashion on the streets of the City.

Although it's crisp and cold, the sun is shining in Seattle and it's definitely feeling like coat weather is on the way. For now, it's time for button down shirts, sweaters, denim and closed-toed shoes. Sandals season is by far my favorite, so it's a bit hard to see that go in place of sweater weather, but I do love fall fashion!

For a recent neighborhood walk, I reached into my closet for a beautiful button-down shirt from GANT. This button down shirt is just the softest, as well as the prettiest blue, and one I have found I reach for quite often. Tied in the front (a french tuck would have also been perfect) and styled with jeans, classic black heels, a Cuyana Work Clutch and my go-to aviator sunglasses, I already know this will become an outfit repeater!

In 2019, GANT celebrates 70 years of innovation and shaping modern American sportswear. Seven decades after this iconic brand's beginnings, the GANT button-down shirt remains a preppy icon. Committed to sustainability, GANT believes the conscious, sustainable approach to designing beautiful products is the future of good business. That climate should never come second to fashion. And in taking responsibility and real action towards creating a more sustainable business. Yes, yes and yes!

Fall Fashion Trends With Savers Value Village & Giveaway!

Hello Fall! This time of year is one of my favorites. I just love the season of beautiful changing colored leaves, sunshine, crisp air, apple picking, cider donuts and pumpkin spice! It also means it's time for fall fashion and boots, coats and sweater weather. Bring on the layers!

Over the weekend, I visited my favorite local thrift store, Value Village™, to update my fall wardrobe with some budget friendly finds. Value Village has a few different brands, so depending on where you live, you might also know them as Savers® or Unique® Thrift. All are fabulous for scoring some thrift treasures!

Since high school, I have been thrifting at Value Village for their great value and selection. Ever struggle with the idea that the perfect fitting pair of jeans even exists? Up until now that has been my daily grind too! I seriously contemplated if denim existed that didn't give you a wedgie or squish your tummy to an uncomfortable level of "I'm never eating again"; that perhaps jeans that lasted longer than 5 minutes without fading and stretching were in fact just a made up evil of pure genius by the denim manufacturers to keep us searching. Well my mind has been changed!

AYR (which stands for All Year Round) makes seriously great fitting jeans! They do in fact exist! "Best-fitting jeans ever" according to Refinery 29 and I couldn't agree more.

Mindfully Made, Sustainable Clothing with prAna

Wednesday, September 20, 2017

Thank you prAna for sponsoring this post.

Mindfully Made, Sustainable Clothing with prAna
prAna Rockaway Jacket c/o | prAna Ryley Crop c/o

Something you might not know about me is that I spent my early 20's leading outdoor adventure trips in California, the Pacific Northwest and along the East Coast. During my summer's in college and shortly thereafter I lead kayaking, sailing, hiking, canoeing, biking and backpacking trips for teens and I absolutely loved it!

Spending time in nature and up to a month on a trip at a time with limited access to laundry, I came to understand the importance of well made clothing that would withstand all the outdoor adventures and travel. I sought out clothing that had little impact on our planet to protect the natural world I was playing in. And clothing that would not only be perfect for playing hard, but would also look good on the street and in the yoga studio on my off duty days.  During this time I discovered prAna.

While I no longer take groups of teens sailing or hiking for weeks at a time, I still depend on prAna for both playing (not quite as hard as I used to) outdoors and for my off-duty time on the street, at the yoga studio and at home. The prAna Rockaway Jacket and Ryley Crop were perfect for my recent outing for coffee and groceries in Burien after a stop at the park for a short walk and mindful meditation.

Frye Harness 12R Boots c/o | Petit Bateau Vest Top | Madewell et SƉZANE Sweater (sold out, similar) | Levi's Denim Shorts (DIY, similar) |  Moorea Seal Morley Hat c/o | Orcas Island Homegrown Market Tote (similar)

Seattle! You're invited to a Celebration of Craftsmanship with The Frye Company at the new Frye Company store in University Village this Thursday! Meet the makers, enjoy live music and celebrate the amazing craftsmanship of our City and Frye Boots on September 14 at The Frye Company Seattle!

Frye Company boots have long found a place in my closet; a vintage pair of 1970s Frye cowboy boots were my first official ebay purchase and a beloved pair of Frye platform sandals have danced at multiple summer weddings leaving not a single blister. Both pairs are still in my closet and only continue to get better with age.

The Harness 12R Boots c/o The Frye Company are my most recent Frye addition to my closet and I just adore! For a recent run to the local coffee shop I styled my new boots with my favorite pair of DIY vintage Levi's denim shorts, a Petit Bateau classic tank, Madewell et SƉZANE sweater for the slight end-of summer breeze in the air and the Morley Hat c/o Moorea Seal to hide that messy morning hair.

My new Frye Harness Boots (c/o) are also perfect for fall and styling with skinny denim and oversized sweaters as the weather changes. Made in the USA, nothing says American Crafstmanship better than the Frye Harness Boot. Inspired by the Civil War cavalry, this iconic boot is uncompromising and truly only gets better with age. Hello fabulous new addition to my closet!

Frye boots and leather goods are well made and meant to last years. Since 1863, this distinctly all-American boot company has been making boots and nurturing artisans. History and heritage go into every single stitch of boots, shoes and bags that soon become heirlooms and passed down treasures. These iconic leather goods consist of only the best in materials, craftsmanship and design ensuring timeless style and unparalleled quality.

Everyone has a Frye Story ~ from the campus boot in college to the vintage cowboy boot found at a thrift store. What's yours?!

Scroll down for all the details and to RSVP for the FRYE Celebration of Seattle Craftsmanship Event on Thursday September 14, 2017! Hope to see you there!

xoxo

Vogue Front Row Fashion Show at Bellevue Fashion Week

Disclosure: a complimentary stay at Hyatt Regency Bellevue and brunch at Eques were provided by Hyatt Regency Bellevue. All opinions are my own!

For the 3rd night of Fashion Week at the Bellevue Collection, the Hyatt Regency Bellevue (where all the fashion shows were taking place!) generously offered me a room to stay in. After driving back and forth to Seattle for Days 1 and 2, I so appreciated the opportunity to stay right on site after the Front Row Fashion Show presented by Vogue. This, of course, also meant being able to fit in some of shopping at The Bellevue Collection and a Sunday brunch at Eques (best brunch in Bellevue!). A perfect weekend of fashion!

All Laced Up for Autumn

Monday, October 3, 2016

I am all about the 70's as we find ourselves fully immersed in the season of Autumn. From laced-up shift dresses to chunky gold sandals, I am playing up that 70's style with all glam details.

Of original boho origins and 1970's inspired style, the laced-up trend is so on point for Fall with numerous ways to incorporate it into your look; think boots, tops, dresses and more. Whether exposing just a touch of cleavage or placed on the side of a dress, laced up details provide that just-so bit of allure that is chic and playful.

It's super easy to take the lace-up trend and dress it up or down. For a recent visit to the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle for some shopping and dining, I styled the TOBI Better Off Lace UP Shift Dress with a pair of Gold Chunky Sandals by Sigerson Morrison, Tag Earrings by Seattle-based Lucia K Jewelry, a pair of Miu Miu Sunglasses and a bag brought back from Italy.

As the weather grows cooler I plan to pair this dress with tights or leggings and trade my sandals for a pair of over-the-knee boots. This dress is also perfect for styling over flared denim and clogs for true 70's style and stepping out all laced up for Autumn!

Think September weddings, farmer's market visits for fall harvest, and of course all the fashion shows and events of fashion month. When I saw the lace shift dress from Banana Republic on the rack I knew I had found the perfect dress to transition from the heat of summer to the cool days of fall.

Fall Trends at Neiman Marcus

Thursday, September 1, 2016

Hand selected by NM Fashion Director Ken Downing, the season's most important looks have arrived at Neiman Marcus. Yes, that's right, Fall is in the air and it's time for fall fashion! On August 10, I joined the local Seattle style community for the semi-annual Neiman Marcus Fall Trend Event, produced by Gossip & Glamour, at Neiman Marcus Bellevue.
