A Wine Tasting Weekend on Whidbey Island

Wednesday, November 6, 2019

Thank you Go Whidbey Camano for partnering on this post! Whidbey and Camano Islands are located in the middle of Puget Sound and an easy drive from Seattle. Drive off the mainland to Whidbey & Camano Islands!

A Wine Tasting Weekend on Whidbey Island

Amour Vert Varden Silk Wrap Dress c/o | St. Agni Woven Slide Sandals | Cult Gaia Cupola Bag c/o Farfetch | Cole Haan Aviator Sunglasses | Sincerely Jules Scrunchie | Chan Lu Earrings (sold out, similar)

Just a short drive and ferry ride from the Seattle metro area sits beautiful Whidbey Island. I grew up on Whidbey and it's where I got married (at a vineyard!). It's also one of my favorite weekend destinations to drive off the mainland. The scenic beauty and tranquility of Whidbey island provide the perfect backdrop for a weekend of wine tasting.

On the largest island of Puget Sound's island gems find small family wineries and distilleries creating critically acclaimed and award winning wines and spirits nested in vineyards and farms with unpretentious hospitality. Wine tasting happy place!

I recently partnered with GoWhidbeyCamano for a weekend on Whidbey Island for the Savor Spring Food Wine and Spirits Tour. My husband S joined me and we had the best time wine tasting at the island's wineries and distilleries, staying at the beautiful Comforts of Whidbey Bed & Breakfast and enjoying the tranquility and beauty of Whidbey Island.

A Foundation of Fewer, Better Things This Fall with Cuyana
Cuyana Trench Wrap Dress c/o | Cuyana Small Structured Leather Tote c/o | Castañer Carina 80 Suede Wedge Espadrilles | Chan Luu Gold Plated Pearl and Crystal Earrings (sold out, similar) | Cuyana Leather Travel Case Set | Cole Haan Aviator Sunglasses | Kjaer Weiss Lip Gloss | Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick

As I continue to curate and create a more sustainable closet, there are a few brands I continue to turn to when I need a new piece for my wardrobe. Cuyana is at the top of that list. With a philosophy founded on owning fewer, better things, Cuyana's beautiful timeless pieces stand the test of time and are those I reach for time and time again.

I've shared my love of Cuyana before (here, here and here) and I am so excited to partner with them once again this fall to continue to create a foundation of fewer, better things and a more sustainable closet. Cuyana believes owning fewer, better things leads to a richer life filled with cherished belongings that stand the test of time. I just love this!

Each Cuyana piece is created with intention: to be beautiful, functional and timeless. Precisely what I'm looking for when adding a new piece to my closet. Collections are informed by elegance, simplicity and practicality, and Cuyana's Fall collection, as well as Foundation pieces are no different.

Heritage and Sustainability With GANT

GANT Shirt c/o (sold out, similar) | Veronica Beard Jeans with Frayed Hem (sold out, similar) | Cuyana Work Clutch | Sam Edelman Black Pumps | Chan Luu Gold-Plated Pearl & Crystal Earrings (sold out, similar) | Cole Haan Aviator Sunglasses

Oh hello Fall! I mean, seriously, how is it already the last day of September?! As October appears tomorrow, Seattle is full swing into fall (winter?!) mode. The leaves are changing colors, the air is crisp, the temperatures have dropped and everyone is sporting fall fashion on the streets of the City.

Although it's crisp and cold, the sun is shining in Seattle and it's definitely feeling like coat weather is on the way. For now, it's time for button down shirts, sweaters, denim and closed-toed shoes. Sandals season is by far my favorite, so it's a bit hard to see that go in place of sweater weather, but I do love fall fashion!

For a recent neighborhood walk, I reached into my closet for a beautiful button-down shirt from GANT. This button down shirt is just the softest, as well as the prettiest blue, and one I have found I reach for quite often. Tied in the front (a french tuck would have also been perfect) and styled with jeans, classic black heels, a Cuyana Work Clutch and my go-to aviator sunglasses, I already know this will become an outfit repeater!

In 2019, GANT celebrates 70 years of innovation and shaping modern American sportswear. Seven decades after this iconic brand's beginnings, the GANT button-down shirt remains a preppy icon. Committed to sustainability, GANT believes the conscious, sustainable approach to designing beautiful products is the future of good business. That climate should never come second to fashion. And in taking responsibility and real action towards creating a more sustainable business. Yes, yes and yes!

Meaning 'Green Love' in French, Amour Vert is a sustainable fashion brand on a mission to revolutionize the fashion industry to make the world a more sustainable place!

Sustainable Fashion with Amour Vert

I am also currently on a mission to make my closet as sustainable as possible! This means loving and wearing the clothes I already have, purchasing secondhand clothing at thrift and vintage stores instead of new, repairing clothing instead of tossing and when a new item is truly needed, purchasing it from a sustainable brand, like Amour Vert!

According to the Green Strategy, "Sustainable fashion can be defined as clothing, shoes and accessories that are manufactured, marketed and used in the most sustainable manner possible, taking into account both environmental and socio-economic aspects."

With beautiful, versatile, sustainable and thoughtfully designed clothing that's both good for you and the planet, Amour Vert is all about being effortlessly sustainable. I love to shop at Amour Vert when I need a new item in my closet! Green Love! Love! Love!

As a huge proponent of sustainable fashion, I was so excited to learn that Amour Vert was opening a store (now open!) at University Village in Seattle. I was honored to receive an invitation to the grand opening and the store is absolutely worth a visit (you can also shop online!)

In addition to stocking the Amour Vert in-house brand, Amour Vert also carries a handful of other sustainable brands in line with their mission, such as Veja and Machete. From silk midi dresses to the softest of  tees to an exclusive denim line with AGOLDE, each piece at Amour Vert is absolutely sustainable-closet worthy!

Summer Vacation Packing List

Wednesday, June 19, 2019

Summatime!!! It is officially summer this weekend with summer solstice this Friday, June 21! I am so excited for the start of the sunshine season. Not only does summer equal sunshine and ice cream and days at the beach and time spent outdoors, it also means summer vacations!

Summer Vacation Packing List

Last summer my husband S and I spent two weeks in the Greek Islands for our honeymoon and yes, it was incredible (stay tuned for travel guides!) This year we are staying closer to home for the summer with lots of Pacific Northwest adventures planned. Seriously, PNW is best in summer!

We've already been to Whidbey Island for wine tasting and the Gorge Amphitheater to see the Dead & Company. We have an end of summer trip to the Hood Canal on the books for our anniversary and we are currently in the midst of planning for the rest of June, July and August. Any suggestions? We are contemplating Mt. Rainier, the Washington Coast, another island visit to Whidbey (or another island or 2 or 3), the Painted Hills in Oregon, Portland (OR), and a few other fun spots!

Do you have any fun trips planned for summer? If so, you're in luck! I've rounded up some of my favorite items to add to your summer vacation packing list. From cotton voile tops, to gauze-y wide leg pants to leather sandals, each of this items is absolutely worthy of a summer vacation suitcase or weekender addition!

What Wear When: 6/14 Events in Seattle & Beyond

It's the final week countdown until it's officially summer and I am seriously jumping for joy! We hit 90s this week in Seattle and it has been HOT, HOT, HOT! But I am definitely not complaining; I am a huge sunshine and hot weather fan!

With summer, comes all the fun things! Last weekend my husband and I road-tripped to the Gorge Amphitheater (the most AMAZING live music venue) to see the Dead and Company (yay for festival season!) and had such a great time!

Along with summer festivals and live music, this sunshine season brings new store openings, fashion exhibitions, dining al fresco, outdoor adventures and so much more! I just love summer in Seattle!

Particularly on my radar going into this weekend and the next few weeks are the A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes exhibition at MoPOP,  Seattle Style Fashion/Function exhibit presented by Nordstrom at MOHAI Seattle, Glossier Popup on Capitol Hill and the new Allbirds store at University Village!

Here's all the fun things I'm looking forward to as we head into the beginning of summer  . . .

The Best Bags for Summer

Sunshine, rising temperatures and beach days on the horizon call for all the summer bags, please! Can't wait for summer? Me neither! We are now just days away from summer solstice and I am getting more and more excited each day!

This year I am all about basket, net, raffia, crochet and whimsical clutches, totes and shoulder bags for the summer season. Each with a bit of something special (a necessity in a summer bag!) and perfect for the beach, city strolling and/or island vacays, I've rounded up my favorite bags for summer at a variety of price points and styles.

Summer days call for summer bags!

From Spring Blossoms to Summer Sunshine

Wednesday, June 5, 2019

We are now a few days into June, which means we're moving from spring blossoms to summer sunshine! The past few months have brought cherry and plum blossoms to our Seattle neighborhood, as well as beautiful flowers and a slow increase in temperatures. With the sun setting now after 9pm, summer is truly in the air!

From Spring Blossoms to Summer Sunshine

Tularosa Dress (sold out, similar) | Paseart Espadrilles Wedge Sandal (similar) | Bali Rattan Top Lid Shoulder Bag | Cole Haan Aviator Sunglasses

With spring blossoms giving way to summer sunshine, if you haven't already, it's time to break out the sundresses and summer sandals and bags! I was thrilled to find this dress by Tularosa on a recent thrifting adventure. Although it has long sleeves, it is lightweight cotton, with gorgeous embroidery and lace details, and a new favorite dress for the season.

Tularosa is known for it's refined vintage-inspired collection of romantic dresses, textural jackets and embroidered tops designed for the wild at heart. A beautiful modern bohème LA-based brand, Tularosa is one of my go-to's for summer.

For a recent neighborhood walk in Seattle, I styled my Tularosa Dress (sold out, similar) with a pair of Paseart Espadrilles Wedge Sandal (similar) from Spain, a Bali Rattan Top Lid Shoulder Bag and a pair of Cole Haan Aviator Sunglasses.

15+ Must See Movies at Seattle International Film Festival

We're one week into the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) and there are so many good movies this year! Tonight I am planning to catch Celebration at Pacific Place, an opulent and immersive behind-the-scenes look at haute couture designer Yves Saint Laurent's final show before his death, told through the eyes of longtime business partner Pierre Bergé, which was suppressed for the last two decades. I am so excited to see this film!

Tonight's viewing of Celebration at Pacific Place is the 2nd Fashion Film Friday of SIFF. Each Friday of the festival is a different fashion film showing at Pacific Place. Last Friday was Jean-Paul Gaultier: Freak and Chic (the US Premiere!), with Timeless Beauty showing next Friday and the final Fashion Film Friday featuring Halston (additional showtimes available.)

15+ Must See Movies at Seattle International Film Festival

In addition to four amazing fashion films, I've included in my Seattle International Film Festival Guide this year some incredible films around travel, art, music, design, just for fun and more! There are over 400 films at this year's SIFF, and after strategic examining of this year's film guide, these are 15+ films I am hoping to see!

If you're attending SIFF, I would love to hear your thoughts on the films and what you're planning to see! If you see me at the movies, come say 'Hi'! Now I'm off to the movies . . .

15+ Stylish Sandals You Won't Regret Buying For Summer

ST. AGNI Henni Leather and Rattan Slides | Ulla Johnson Floral Dress (sold out, similar) | Woven Bag (thrifted, similar)

It is officially sandal season! We've hit 70s in Seattle and are expecting 80s tomorrow! Sandal season is pretty much my favorite. I am such a fan of a beautiful sandal. This spring and summer (and hopefully into fall, crossing fingers) I plan to wear sandals each and every day that I can.

We do get the occasional summer shower, but if the sun is shining, sandals will be my go to shoe. If it's a bit cooler out, I plan to pair sandals with vintage Levis and a cashmere sweater. As the days grow warmer, I'll switch jeans out for shorts and eventually drop the sweater to just a tee. On the warmest of days you'll find me in sundresses and sandals.

I've rounded up 15+ pairs of stylish sandals I am just loving this sandal season. With a range of price points and styles, one is bound to be perfect for a day at the beach, a summer boardwalk stroll, dinner al fresco with a loved one and/or brunch with girlfriends. These are 15+ stylish sandals you won't regret buying for summer!

Need New Glasses? At Eye Eye Care Find a Perfectly Curated Selection of Independent Designer & Vintage Dead Stock Frames

Thank you Eye Eye Care for partnering on this post!

Need New Glasses? At Eye Eye Care Find a Perfectly Curated Selection of Independant Designer & Vintage Dead Stock Frames

Garrett Leight California Linnie Eye Glasses c/o Eye Eye | Ganni Barra Print Crepe de Chine Wrap Maxi Dress | Unisa Miola Bootie | Vintage Bag (thrifted, similar)

I was recently invited by Eye Eye Care to stop by for a comprehensive eye exam and new pair of frames and the experience was fantastic! If you are in the market for a new pair of glasses or shades you are going to want to make an appointment at this Seattle eye clinic and optical shop asap.

A glasses wearer since 5th grade, I have gone through many trials and tribulations related to wearing glasses and my nearsightedness. I remember in my middle school years begging my Dad to get contacts (and finally permitted to in 8th grade) and never feeling like the pair of glasses I was given to wear or chose really suited me. Maybe you can relate?

I have also always dreaded going to the eye doctor. Between dilation and the puff test, that was enough to give me anxiety for a week leading up to my visit. But that all changed the moment I stepped foot in Eye Eye Care! Eye Eye Care is the first eye doctor I've visited where I felt calm the minute I opened the door (and really even spotted the storefront).

Tacoma, Washington is the Perfect Spot for an Urban Getaway

Thank you Travel Tacoma for partnering on this post!

Tacoma, Washington is the Perfect Spot for an Urban Getaway

On the shores of Puget Sound with Mount Rainier standing watch to the east, sits urban port city Tacoma, Washington, an ideal spot for an urban weekend getaway. Just south of Seattle, Tacoma is known for it's world renowned glass art, and is quickly becoming a destination for new restaurants, indie boutiques, beautiful natural parks, art museums, music venues and a stunning waterfront on the saltwater banks of Puget Sound.

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest and the Seattle area, I have to admit I previously thought I had only two reasons to visit Tacoma. One was to attend High School state championship basketball games when our team made it (and miss school!) and two, in college, to go to Dave Matthews Band concerts at the Tacoma Dome. But that has all changed after a recent weekend getaway to Tacoma!

I recently partnered with Travel Tacoma for a 3 day, 2 night visit to Tacoma, WA and quickly fell in love with this vibrant and sophisticated old-meets-new City alive with art, shopping, food, nature and culture.

The snow has transitioned to rain in Seattle and although a bit more snow is in the forecast, beginning signs of Spring are starting to appear. Crocuses are beginning to pop up in our yard and small buds are making their appearance on trees. I am definitely ready for this change of seasons, how about you?!

However, with Spring in Seattle comes rain (April showers, bring May flowers . . .) which makes good rain gear an absolute must-have in the Pacific Northwest. I have long struggled to find rain gear that is stylish, sustainable and keeps me dry, until I discovered Feller!

Feller makes re-imagined waxed cotton outerwear that is uber stylish, has an elevated style, keeps me warm and dry, is a woman owned brand, uses sustainable fabrics and is based in Seattle! So basically, win, win, win, win for me and closet (and perhaps yours?!)
